Hinamatsuri
March 3 is “Girls’ Day” in Japan. For those of you who don’t know, my wife is from Japan and we have a 7 year old daughter, Kristine. To give her a little cultural heritage, we set up a traditional set of Hinamatsuri dolls in the house. I don’t know (and don’t want to know) how much we paid for this, but the dolls and accompanying furniture and other decorations are incredibly ornate.

It took us a few hours to set up the stand, unwrap all the dolls and other items, figure out where each one goes, tie the little hats on, and equip them with whatever instrument, weapon, gift, etc. they are supposed to be holding. If you are interested about the custom, arrangement, and what each doll represents, wikipedia has a nice article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinamatsuri
I’ll close with some more pics, but you can see the full set on my flickr site.
